Esther's Story

Esther has been so into telling stories lately. She loves for us to tell her stories at bedtime and she has made up a few gems of her own :). The other day I bribed her to tell me a story by offering ice cream. I love this age when her imagination is really starting to come out. It is so fun to watch.

Esther's Story and Songs from Courtney Hunt on Vimeo.

Here is what she said in the story, at least to the best of my toddler-translation skills.

"A long time ago there was a little Mama, named Mama. She walked and she walked. She has a ? sunny day. She goes outside today. You try and go ??? not nice. She was nice, she was mean, she was nice. The end. AMEN!"

Haha this little girl keeps us laughing!

Adele's Birthday

I posted this collage of Adele's monthly pictures on IG on her birthday. Look at this baby! I of course love one month because newborns are my favorite, but look at 4 months! I am dying! Leland and I both agreed 6 months was her peak of chubbiness.

Adele started her birthday off with a fall that left a giant goose egg and bruise right in the middle of her forehead. It looked really bad but luckily she only cried for a minute and after wrestling with her to keep an ice pack on her head it looked a lot better.

We kept her birthday very low key because she is 1 and doesn't care and also because we are having a big birthday party for her in a few weeks. In the morning we ran some errands then we went to chick fil a for lunch. Adele loved all the food of course and also loved watching all the kids in the play place. Esther loved the playground and had no interest in eating ha.

After lunch and naps we had Adele's cake. Like most one year olds she was just confused when we put the cake in front of her. I think we need to change the cake smash tradition from 1 year olds to 3 year olds. Now that would be entertaining!

Once we gave her a slice she went to town and loooooved it! She made a giant mess and ate almost the whole slice :)

Happy Birthday Baby Adele!

Twelve Months Old!

Adele! She is officially a one year old tomorrow! I can't believe it! It some ways it seems like this past year has creeped by and in other ways it all seems like a blur. I guess that's sleep deprivation for you! She is the sweetest and the smartest little thing and I can't imagine our life without her. Thank goodness we had her when we did because it was the perfect timing with Esther's personality for her to fit right in. (Read more about her very early beginnings right here)

^^^Those rolls, that belly, her scruffy hair, her long dark eyelashes, I can't get enough of her cuteness!

She is officially a little walker as of a couple days ago. She took her first steps at 10.5 months but still preferred crawling until a few days ago when something clicked and she's been walking all over the place. Esther keeps saying "She's big now!" and "She's grown up now!".

Adele has reached the imitation stage and it is the cutest thing. She holds up play phones to her ear to "talk", she will try to comb her hair or brush her teeth when she gets a hold of those items, and whenever we are laughing or Esther is screaming she joins right in.

She is so affectionate and I love it ha. She will give kisses to Leland, Esther and me on command and hugs too. When Leland leaves for work he gives all three of us a kiss and when it is her turn she is puckered up and ready. 😭

She has been quite the needy little thing these past few weeks, I'm not sure why. Maybe teething or separation anxiety but she is usually whiney in the afternoons unless I'm holding her. She's been spending a lot of time in the carrier on my back because lugging around her 25 lbs ain't easy. And heaven forbid I hold Esther and not her because she gets sooooo jealous. Good thing she has a solid claim on her position as baby of the family, for now.

She loves to eat, both nursing and solid foods. She loves all foods but her very favorite things are still fruits. I think along with Leland's looks she inherited his sweet tooth too. She still nurses 4-5 times a day and usually only one dream feed at night, (Holla for finally sleeping through the night!) She takes two naps a day but they have been so short lately which attributes to her fussiness,

She still does zero baby signs despite my half-hearted attempts to teach her some, but she can say a few words. All-done, mama, dada, bye, yeah and woah. She recently learned how to wave bye too.

She is shorter than Esther was at this age and wears 12-18 month clothes. She wears size 5 or 6 diapers but is mostly in cloth now. I will update this post with her official weight and height after her 12 month appointment.

Adele is growing up to be a smart and sassy little girl. I can't wait to celebrate her tomorrow!

From the Weekend

This past weekend my family came up so we could go to my Grandpa Jack's funeral. It was a long drive through a blizzard basically, but we made it, It was nice to see family that we don't see very often and to remember Grandpa Jack. I was bad about taking pictures so the above one is one my sister sent me!

On Saturday we went to the aquarium together. It's crazy how much Esther has grown since the last time we went. Esther and Adele ( as well as all the adults) really liked it. Esther's favorite things included climbing on all the animal statues, and the lights that make it look like you're under water in the jellyfish room.

Afterwards we went out to eat at Los Cucos, our favorite Mexican restaurant, then our family left that night.

On Sunday we went to church bright and early at 9am. I have always liked 9am church best and now that we have kids I like it even more. It was my week off nursery so I got to spend the block walking the halls with this little wanna be toddler. Leland made it up to me though by letting me take a 3 hour nap when we got home. Thanks babe!

Now we are back to the weekly grind and getting cabin fever again because there is so much snow! We went to story time at the library today, and then to DI after naps just to get out of the house ha. I have always loved winter but I am feeling kind of over the snow already ha. In other news Adele turns 1 (!) on Saturday so prepare for blog overload as we mourn  celebrate that milestone!

SLC Library

The downtown Salt Lake City Library is probably my most favorite library that I've been to. I'm not really into architecture but this one is just so unique. I went for the first time last year with Esther and this was my second visit. It has 3 glass elevators and so many windows. In the children's section the entire ceiling is windows so it almost feels like you're outside.

So funny story. When we were going in the elevator I had Adele in the single stroller and Esther walking beside me. As we were riding in the elevator to go down to the children's section an older lady was in the elevator with us. When it stopped at our floor Esther ran out the door and I was maneuvering the stroller amd I didn't get out before the door closed. The elevator started going up with myself, Adele and the old woman still inside. Since it was glass I could see her for a bit as we went up and she was just waiting there for us, so I wasn't too concerned. The lady though was just so worried "Oh my, I hope she's all right" and I was like "I think she'll just wait there". We were only separated for maybe 60 second but the old lady was just staring at me with the most concerned/judge-y look on her face the entire time. She didn't even get off at her floor but rode the elevator back down with me. I was never really that concerned but the way that lady was looking at me you'd think I abandoned my child ha. As soon as we got down Esther was standing there like nothing even happened. I was proud/happy/relieved that she didn't run off. As soon as I got out she held my hand again and we went on our way. Thinking back on it I was a little more worried about what could have happened to her, but that's how I always am, chill in the moment then super anxious about it later ha. Bottom line I will never ride the frontrunner/trax/subway alone with them.

In the Children's section of the library there are two little rooms made for climbing I guess? This one is called "The Attic" and the other one is an ice cave. The ice cave was closed this time, sadly, but the girls had fun playing in the attic one.

We read some books and playing with a few toys there. Then on the way back to the car I made sure to hold on to Esther's hand the entire way.
