Five Months Old

Adele is five months old now! It's crazy how much time flies. I know I say that every month haha. Looking back on Esther's 5 month post, it's crazy how different these two are, and how different we are as parents. By 5 months Esther was already in her own room in her crib and sleep trained. Back when Esther was a baby I was working so it was important that she be on a good schedule and able to go to sleep for Leland. Esther seemed like a big baby already at five months. Adele on the other hand is no where near sleep trained, and she still seems like a little (not so little) baby in a lot of ways. I think it's because I'm a little more relaxed this time (easier to be when I'm not working) and I'm content to just let her be a baby for a little longer.

Adele has developed so much this past month. She grabs at everything now and it all goes straight to her mouth. She loves tummy time and will happily play on a blanket for an hour or so, as long as I am in sight. She is getting stronger but still not very close to sitting up.

Adele went through the 4 month sleep regression right at 4 months, and was only taking 20 minute naps. That was hard. But she has since gone back to taking good naps, though they are almost always in her swing. That thing is a life saver. Her night sleep is erratic (see last post) and sleeping in our bed is the only way anyone gets any sleep.

Adele still refuses all bottles and pacifiers. I haven't left her for more than an hour or so with Leland. I've given up on her taking a bottle now and I am just waiting until she starts solids, hopefully then we can leave her for a little longer and get some dates nights in again :)

Adele is now in size 4 diapers and wears size 6-12 month clothes. She is still our big girl but I have a feeling she'll be thinning out over the next few months.

Aside from being a horrible sleeper, Adele is a very happy and easy going baby. Even when she hardly sleeps she is a happy girl, laughing and giggling and talking to herself. At night when she doesn't want to sleep she just lays in between us and talks to herself lol. It seems the only time she cries badly is when she is hungry which is very hard to predict as sometimes she will go 5 hours during the day and be perfectly happy and other times she will be upset only 30 minutes after I fed her.

Esther was desperately wanting to be involved in this photo shoot, she even got her headband all set, just like Adele, for the pictures :)

vvvv This one cracks me up!

Adele and Esther really love each other. I'm excited to see them grow up together. :)

This and That

*So I am writing this post on my phone while nursing so excuse all the mistakes*

Leland got me a fitbit for my bday. I am loving it! This picture was from a really good day where I walked with the girls to the park twice in one day to get all my steps in. It really motivates me to get out of the house so I can reach those goals. I also like the sleep tracking. It records when you are asleep and when you are asleep but restless. It is a little depressing how badly I sleep with Adele in the bed. Even though i get like 7 or 8 hours a night, I never go more than an hour or two without being restless. More on that later.

Esther has been so funny lately. She is obsessed with Little Bear. I guess on one of  episodes there is a fox named Poppy. So one day she started calling Loki Poppy. I had no idea what she was talking about until Leland reminded me it was from Little Bear lol. Another thing she does is when she sees clouds she will say "I see Dumbo" or "I see babies (from Up)". She has quite the imagination.
She will always ask me to "go in a dark dark cave" meaning she wants me to put a blanket over both of our heads haha.

So a few days ago I was having a really bad day and I decided to take the girls to see Finding Dory to cheer us all up. Well it wasn't the best idea. I made the mistake of getting there on time so we had to sit through the previews. Most of which Esther dubbed as scary (Ghostbustets, Monster Trucks and Pete's Dragon). Then she was good for about an hour as long as I fed her snacks (which we brought from home #rebels). During that hour Adele was pretty fussy and I was nursing her off and on trying to get her to sleep. Finally i got her to sleep and thought we were good to go. Well Esther started getting restless and running up the aisles and eating popcorn off the floor so we left. Moral of the story: Don't take 2 babies to a movie by yourself.

Sleep: Is trying to force kids to sleep the worst part of parenting for anyone else or just us? Are we just bad parents? Did we just get bad sleepers? Probably both. Do other people have bad sleepers and just never talk about it? Please tell me yes. I am so sick of people asking me if Adele sleeps through the night yet. It's like the first question random people ask at the store or church or whatever. Also asking if she is a "good baby". So if she wakes up a lot does that make her a "bad baby"? Ugh. So to answer all the questions, no she doesn't sleep through the night. Faaaaaar from it. Esther doesn't either. Though she is getting much better and does occasionally.
So just a little PSA: Please don't inquire about my children's sleep habits or offer your advice on how to get them to sleep. Unless you are offering solidarity or paying to hire me a sleep trainer (it is a real thing Ive looked into it lol) your comments are probably just going to make me feel worse. Part of me thinks I just need to embrace it and buy a king bed and let them all sleep with us. I read that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt "practice family bedsharing" so apparently it's all the rage these days. Ok end rant.

Photo Dump: (Adele is way easier to get pics of which is why these are all of her.)

Zoo Day

Yesterday we went to the Hogle Zoo with Kylee, Chance and Rickelle. Even though we've been a few times Esther really loved it this time. She was more into the animals than ever and knew most of their names. I'll be the first to admit this post has waaaaaay too many pictures but I do what I please.

These baby lions were so adorable. I loved them, It was just like Lion King with the mama cleaning all the babies. (Leland demands that I give him credit for that line haha).

Esther loved the elephants.

With Aunt Kylee and Uncle Chance.

Adele had a lot of fun too. We tried to keep her in the shade, and I was nursing her a lot to keep her hydrated, so she's not in too many pictures. But she loved being outside and seeing all the people.

Esther is finally not scared of Uncle Chance anymore :)

Esther's favorite part of the zoo were these polar bear statues. She kept hugging and kissing them and said "bye bye bears" when we left them.

Still Adele's favorite place to be.

Esther's first time having an ice cream cone. She was in heaven.

Kylee and Chance bought Esther a bubble gun, :)

On the train. I promise Esther wasn't dying of heat stroke like it looks like here haha. She just gets red cheeks when it's hot, Adele does too. They get it from Leland's side of the family.

Attempting a family picture...

 Adele is not amused....
