Hair Cuts, Highchairs and Cribs

Yesterday I gave Leland a haircut. To save money I always cut his hair. His hair is pretty hard to cut since it's all curly and wavy, but I try my best. He definitely needed it. And he did not appreciate the pics.

I think it turned out alright.

In other news we recently traded our bassinet in for a high chair at kid to kid. Esther isn't eating solid food but she loves sitting in it and playing with her toys. We usually put her in there while we eat dinner and she loves being high enough to see us.

I took off her clothes because she spit up all over them. Rolls for days....

We also recently got a crib for Esther to sleep in. In our old apartment there was no room for a crib, so she was in a bassinet next to our bed. Since we moved we've been transitioning her into a crib in her own room for naps. Last week we decided to sleep train her since I would be going back to work and her night waking was out of control. It was really rough at first, but luckily Leland took the brunt of it since he does bedtime while I'm at work. Now she can fall asleep on her own without being rocked. About half of the time she goes to sleep with no crying, and other times she fusses anywhere from 5-30 minutes. She still wakes up at night to nurse, but hopefully she will outgrow that real soon. She naps so much better now though. Sometimes she naps so long that I have to go and take pictures of her to wake her up.

Any time she would soothe herself to sleep she would end up falling asleep with the blanket over her face. To solve that problem we have her sleep with this crocheted blanket my aunt made for her. The holes allow her to breath, but she always ends up with her fingers and toes wrapped in it. Silly girl.

Bear Lake Trip

Last week we took a trip to Bear Lake with my family. I didn't get many pictures, but we had a great time. Esther loved seeing her Grandma and Grandpa and her Aunt's and Uncles, and I appreciated all the babysitters.

First we went to Minnetonka cave. Esther had a great nap in the baby carrier.

Esther also loved her first time at the beach. The water was pretty cold, but she didn't mind.

We also went on a hike to another lake in Idaho. There was snow around it and tons of wild flowers.

In other news, Esther is getting so close to being able to sit up. Usually she can balance for 10-20 seconds before she resorts to this:

Pictures as of Late

Four Months Old

Esther turned four months old on the 4th of July. She had her four month checkup on the 11th.
4 Month Stats:
-16 lbs 3 oz (84th %)
-27 inches (99th %)
-16.5 inch head (82nd %)

She is such a big girl for her age. She is wearing 6 month clothes and already outgrowing all of those, so I just pulled out all the 9 month ones. She can now roll over like a champ and does it all the time. She also laughs so much, it's the cutest sound ever. She has pretty much lost all of her brown hair she was born with, except right at the back above her neck. Now she has white blonde hair growing in. I was pretty sad when her hair was gone, but she is still so adorable. It looks like her new hair will be long in no time. Her eyes have changed from the dark newborn blue color to a slightly lighter color blue, so it looks like her eyes will be the same color as mine. Everyone claims she looks like me, but I see some of Leland in her too.

At 4 months she likes:
-watching TV (we try not to let her though)
-being read to
-going outside

At 4 months she dislikes:
-being in the car
-being restrained at all
-getting her nails cut

And for comparison:

3 Months Old

So I know this post is a month late, but I wrote everything down in a journal for Esther so I'm copying it from there. Blogging is kinda touch and go, I don't really know if it's worth the effort, but I figure for the sake of consistency I'll at least try to put up all of her monthly pics and updates.

At 3 Months she likes:
-tummy time
-being held
-being outside
-going for walks
-the binky

At 3 Months she doesn't like:
-the carseat
-going to sleep
-drinking from bottles

She started wearing size 3 diapers around 3 months. She also went through a growth spurt/sleep regression around 3 months where she stopped sleeping her usual 6-8 hour blocks at night and started sleeping 2-4 hour blocks. That was rough and we attempted some sleep training. It's a work in progress but she has gotten better.

Cloth diapering is still going great. It's definitely more work than disposables but it is worth the money it saves. The only downside is it makes her clothes not fit/big butt haha. She is getting so fun and smiling and laughing all the time. We just love her!
