Putting Up the Tree

I'm usually an after Thanksgiving Christmas celebrator, but with this being Esther's first Christmas I couldn't wait any longer to put the tree up. We are going to be gone for Thanksgiving, so I wanted to enjoy the tree a little longer this year.

Esther is fascinated by lights right now so it was so fun to see her get excited for the tree. She just kept staring and staring. We let her play with a little plastic ornament and she was in heaven.

In my family we always had a tradition of taking turns putting the star or angel on top of the tree. I wanted to keep that tradition going so we let Esther put the star on the top of the tree. :) Leland thought it was silly but he obliged anyways.

Esther loves looking at the tree and so far hasn't tried to touch it at all, so win win.

After we were done we watched Disney's Christmas sing along songs. We watched this  every Christmas when I was growing up, so I wanted Leland to see it. Luckily we found the full thing on youtube.

I am so excited for Christmas!

Esther is growing up so fast! She started crawling at 7.5 months and she learned how to pull up to standing and about 8.5 months. Just this past week she has been standing like crazy. We had to lower her crib mattress to make sure she doesn't fall out. She has gotten a lot of bumps from falling down, but she is a pretty tough girl and usually only cries for 2 minutes or less.

^^^ No hands!

When she does get to standing she'll look over at me and do the cutest little proud smile. :)

Her other milestone is that her hair is finally long enough for pig tails! One of the things I most looked forward to with having a little girl was doing her hair, and now I finally can, as long as she is holding relatively still.

What I've Been Reading

Since Esther has been born I have had both more time and less time to read. I have way more time than when I was in school full time, but less time than when I was in high school. But still I've been reading, usually during her naps or as a way to wind down right before bed. These are some of my favorite books that I've read lately. You can click the link for a better summary since I will try to be brief to not ruin anything. Also because I don't exactly remember what happened in all of these.

Me Before You by Jo Jo Moyes: This was a really interesting read, and I of course loved the romance. I felt like it was really realistic for a romance though. Even though I hated the ending it still made sense. It did have some language though, but I find that easy to skip over when reading.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell: I first read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell and really liked it but I wasn't a fan of all the swearing in it. I heard this one was better so I decided to give it a try. It was really cute and also pretty inspiring for a light read. I was a little confused by the whole landline aspect of it, but I just went with it.

The Walk series by Richard Paul Evans: This book is by a LDS author, but the characters aren't LDS. This series is about a man who decides to walk across the country. It was also an easy and light read, but still had some deep messages and also a bit of romance. My favorite part of his books are the journal excerpts at the beginning of each chapter.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han: I loved this one. It is a YA romance without any fantasy or futuristic societies in it. Not that I'm against those but "normal" books seems to be hard to find these days. This book was spot on when it describes being in high school and high school drama. I really liked it, it is probably my favorite of all of these, maybe.

Insurgent by Veronica Roth: If you have never read Divergent and only watched the movie, the book is sooooo much better! I thought most of the hoopla over this series was over, but apparently not. I had to wait approximately 3 months on the library waiting list to get this book. Then I didn't go pick it up in time and had to wait another 2, but I finally read it.  Even though this second book is pretty depressing. I liked that it had more character development and a little less violence. I am hopeful that the movie will be better than Divergent.

8 Months Old

This past month went by way too fast. Esther has learned a ton in the last month. She is at such a fun age and has started crawling all over the place, she is eating a lot more foods including table foods, and she has started to pull up onto her knees, and occasionally her feet.

The pictures this month were a little last minute, hence the shirt instead of the onesie. Her hair is getting really long and blonde, and she also just learned how to clap. She still has no teeth. We always think she is teething and close to getting them but they never come.

She went on a crazy nursing strike this past month, but luckily we are back on track now and will hopefully make it to 12 months. She has also finally started sleeping 8-10 hours at night without waking up to eat. It is so nice, and I hope it lasts.

She currently weighs about 19-20 pounds, and wears size 4 diapers. We still do cloth diapers about 80% of the time, if I am keeping up with the laundry. She also wear some 9 month clothes, but mostly 12 month, and a few 18 month things.

At 8 Months she likes:
-going outside
-exploring all over the house
-being read and sang to
-her toys, and things that aren't toys
-when daddy comes home
-being held
-eating food from our plates
-grabbing cords

At 8 months she doesn't like:
-being spoon fed (unless it is something she loves)
- the vacuum, blender, or other loud noises
-being put in her crib
-having her diaper changed

Most of our pictures this month turned out like this because she is always on the move!

This is Halloween

This year for Esther's first Halloween we dressed her up as a duck. (I found this brand new costume at kid to kid for only $5).

But before that we had to dress her in her other Halloween attire:

(our camera has been messing up lately so these were the best I could get)

Then that night we took her to our ward trunk or treat.

Leland and I were lame and didn't dress up this year, maybe next year :)

And more pictures...

Esther of course didn't understand what was going on, but she seemed to like the trunk or treat and smiled at most of the people. She also graciously gave us all of her candy to eat :)
