ECLIPSE
Leland ordered us eclipse glasses from Amazon, but they were part of the recall so we never got them. Leland had to work that day, so it was just me and the girls home. We made this box viewer but it didn't work. It was hilarious to see the girls run around with it on their heads though ha. Adele ended up napping during the whole thing and Esther wasn't too interested. We did the plate on the ground thing and she liked it, but she was more interested in playing with the neighbor's grand kids who were out. I thought it was super cool. Where we live it was about 92% of totality. It got noticeably cooler, lots of hummingbirds came out, and all the shadows in the trees were crescent shaped. Leland and I decided we will definitely go to the next one to see it in totality. 7 years from now it will be at totality in Leland's home town in Texas, so we've got our calendars marked. :)
NATURE CENTER
Last week we visited the Nature Center in Ogden. I had been on field trips as a kid but I didn't really remember anything about it. It was really fun though. They had a birdhouse walk that we went on, that was interesting. The birds of prey exhibit was the best part. We started out by seeing hawks, falcons, owls and a raven. The raven was so different from any bird I had ever seen. It had a lot of toys in it's cage and played with them all like a dog. After that we went around the corner and saw a bald eagle. Esther was so excited! She loves bald eagles. This one was much easier to look at than the ones at the zoo. It lives at the Nature Center because it was injured and only has one wing now. It was cool to look at too. We stayed there at it's cage for a long time.
We walked along the paths there and found various things like a "bear den". Esther called it a spider den because it was filled with spiders but the girls liked playing in it anyways ha. It was a fun place and we'll have to visit again. I was impressed the girls walked the whole way, especially Adele. They both slept really well that night.
HIKE
On Friday we went on another one of Leland's hikes, the last one we will do as a family. We hiked the first part to the reservoir, then Leland continued up to the falls while the girls and I stayed and played in the water. They had a blast wading in the water and playing with the ducks. It was so pretty there too.
MORE
We've been trying to get out more, soaking up the last days of summer, playing in lots of water and mud.

Esther drew this picture of and elephant in the mud. I was super impressed.
